How to Apply for Your New Mississippi Driver’s License
To transfer your out-of-state driver’s license, you will likely need to bring:
- Documents proving your identification (a valid, unexpired driver’s license from another U.S. state or territory)
- Proof of car insurance.
- Proof of social security number.
- A vehicle with a valid registration.

Vehicle Registration
Within 30 days of moving to Mississippi, it is required that new residents register their vehicles with the state. It is required that you visit a Mississippi State office. Act Quickly!
The following is likely to be needed and required to register your vehicle:
- A valid form of Identification (Driver’s License or U.S. Passport).
- Your vehicle title(s).
- All vehicle owners on the title must be present or a power of attorney must be presented for the owners who are not present.
- Show your current out-of-state vehicle registration.
- Complete a vehicle identification number (VIN) inspection.
- Pay any applicable fees (see “Vehicle Registration Fees” below).

Voter Registration in Mississippi
To vote in Mississippi elections you must have a valid and approved voter registration. You will need to register to vote through the Mississippi Department of State.
Photo identification at the polling booth is a must in Mississippi.
To be eligible to vote in Mississippi, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a Mississippi resident.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- NOT been convicted of a disqualifying felony.
- NOT be declared “mentally incompetent” by a court.
How to Register to Vote in Mississippi
You will need to apply in person at your local Circuit Court Clerk’s office or by mail.
