Driver’s License

Within 30 days of moving to a new part of Maryland, you are required to change your address on your Maryland driver’s license or ID card. This can be done online, or in person at a DMV location. They will likely request your current driver’s license number and your new address. Within a couple weeks of updating your information, you will receive your updated Maryland driver’s license or ID card.

 

Vehicle Registration

As a new resident of Maryland, you are required to register your car and obtain a Maryland driver’s license. It is required that you visit a Maryland State office and to apply for your driver license within 60 days of moving to Maryland. Act Quickly!

 

How to Apply for Your New Maryland Driver’s License

To transfer your out-of-state driver’s license, you will likely need to bring:

  • Documents proving your identification (a valid, unexpired driver’s license from another U.S. state or territory)
  • Proof of car insurance.
  • Proof of social security number.
  • A vehicle with a valid registration.

Vehicle Registration

Within 60 days of moving to Maryland, it is required that new residents register their vehicles with the state. It is required that you visit a Maryland State office. Act Quickly!

The following is likely to be needed and required to register your vehicle:

  • A valid form of Identification (Driver’s License or U.S. Passport).
  • Your vehicle title(s).
  • All vehicle owners on the title must be present or a power of attorney must be presented for the owners who are not present.

Voter Registration in Maryland

To vote in Maryland elections you must have a valid and approved voter registration. You will need to register to vote through the Maryland Department of State.

Photo identification at the polling booth is a must in Maryland.

To be eligible to vote in Maryland, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be a Maryland resident.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • NOT been convicted of a disqualifying felony.
  • NOT be declared “mentally incompetent” by a court.

How to Register Online to Vote in Maryland

When registering online, you must have a valid Maryland driver’s license or you will need to apply by mail.
