Driver’s License
Within 30 days of moving to a new part of Idaho, you are required to change your address on your Idaho driver’s license or ID card. This can be done online, by mail (Driver services, Idaho Transportation Department, PO Box 7129, Boise, ID 83707-1129), or in person at a DMV location. They will likely request your current driver’s license number and your new address. However, the state of Idaho will not need to issue you a new Driver’s License or ID Card.
Vehicle Registration
When moving within the state of Idaho you are NOT required to contact the state in regards to renewing a vehicle registration. When you update your driver’s license address it will update your registration address too.

As a new resident of Idaho, you are required to register your car and obtain an Idaho driver’s license. It is required that you visit an Idaho State office and to apply for your driver license within 90 days of moving to Idaho. Act Quickly!
How to Apply for Your New Idaho Driver’s License
To transfer your out-of-state driver’s license, you will likely need to bring:
- Documents proving your identification (a valid, unexpired driver’s license from another U.S. state or territory)
- Proof of car insurance.
- Proof of social security number.
- A vehicle with a valid registration.

Vehicle Registration
Within 90 days of moving to Idaho, it is required that new residents register their vehicles with the state. It is required that you visit an Idaho State office. Act Quickly!
The following is likely to be needed and required to register your vehicle:
- A valid form of Identification (Driver’s License or U.S. Passport).
- Your vehicle title(s).
- All vehicle owners on the title must be present or a power of attorney must be presented for the owners who are not present.
- Show your current out-of-state vehicle registration.
- Complete a vehicle identification number (VIN) inspection.
- Pay any applicable fees (see “Vehicle Registration Fees” below).

Voter Registration in Idaho
To vote in Idaho elections you must have a valid and approved voter registration. You will need to register to vote through the Idaho Department of State.
Photo identification at the polling booth is a must in Idaho.
To be eligible to vote in Idaho, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be an Idaho resident.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- NOT been convicted of a disqualifying felony.
- NOT be declared “mentally incompetent” by a court.
How to Register to Vote in Idaho
When registering to vote in Idaho you will need to apply by mail or in person.
