In Oklahoma, there is one main agency that administers DMV-related services:

Oklahoma Department of Public Safety (DPS)

Driver’s License

Within 10 days of moving to a new part of Oklahoma, you are required to change your address on your Oklahoma driver’s license or ID card. This can be done online, or in person at a DPS location. They will likely request your current driver’s license number and your new address. However, the state of Oklahoma will not issue out a new driver’s license or ID card with your updated address.

 

Vehicle Registration

How to Apply for Your New Oklahoma Driver’s License

To transfer your out-of-state driver’s license, you will likely need to bring:

  • Documents proving your identification (a valid, unexpired driver’s license from another U.S. state or territory)
  • Proof of car insurance.
  • Proof of social security number.
  • A vehicle with a valid registration.

These requirements may vary depending on the type of driver’s license for which you are applying. For more information, get in contact with your local drivers licensing office.

 

Vehicle Registration

Within 30 days of moving to Oklahoma, it is required that new residents register their vehicles with the state. It is required that you visit an Oklahoma State office. Act Quickly!

The following is likely to be needed and required to register your vehicle:

  • A valid form of Identification (Driver’s License or U.S. Passport).
  • Your vehicle title(s).
  • All vehicle owners on the title must be present or a power of attorney must be presented for the owners who are not present.
  • Show your current out-of-state vehicle registration.
  • Complete a vehicle identification number (VIN) inspection.
  • Pay any applicable fees (see “Vehicle Registration Fees” below).

Voter Registration in Oklahoma

To vote in Oklahoma elections you must have a valid and approved voter registration. You will need to register to vote through the Oklahoma Department of State.

Photo identification at the polling booth is a must in Oklahoma.

To be eligible to vote in Oklahoma, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be an Oklahoma resident.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • NOT been convicted of a disqualifying felony.
  • NOT be declared “mentally incompetent” by a court.

How to Register to Vote in Oklahoma

When registering to vote in Oklahoma, you must fill out a voter registration application and mail it to the Oklahoma State Election Board.

Please note that you must be notified of your application being accepted prior to voting.

If you are moving from the state of Oklahoma to another state, you will likely be able to transfer your out-of-state driver’s license. Although the specific requirements may vary from state to state, in most cases, the following information will be required:

  • Current and valid driver’s license
  • Proper identification — passport or birth certificate
  • Proof of Social Security number
  • Pass a vision test
  • Proof of residency
